As a make-up artist I get a plethora of requests for all kinds of styles and looks from women of all assortments. I can usually please and give these women the look that they desire. I have done everything from vintage pin- up to 80’s glam rock. I have even done some Hollywood special effects makeup. Of all of the requests that I get the underlying “secret question” is almost always the same. Most of my clients finally, and sheepishly ask “can you make me feel beautiful?” Well, in all honesty, the answer is no, I can not make you feel beautiful. Only you can do that. I can make you look how ever you choose, but looks are not a feeling.

Feeling beautiful is not something that should be determined by one’s appearance. Unfortunately, in this day and age, it seems as if it the one deciding factor that weighs upon the minds of us all. Women are exceedingly complex and perplexing creatures. We, in our uninhibited true bare skin, are the very essence of strength and beauty and how the two combine. Our psyches, however, can be a dark and cataclysmic place in which our self confidence seems to be dwindled by the vicious demons of overly stimulated stereotypes and unrealistic perceptions of what true beauty is. Demons which, sadly, I myself have succumbed to.

It does not matter what size your waist or your bust, how clear your skin is, or what your bone structure is. All of us deserve to feel comfortable and beautiful in our own skin. The most beautiful, seductive, feature a woman can possess is something that I can not provide. Confidence. I can assist in giving confidence a temporary boost, but at the end of the day it is just make-up. They say the clothes don’t make the man, the same goes for us. The makeup doesn’t make the woman.

I truly do understand they way make-up can make a woman feel. Like having a new face, I get it. I’ve felt it. Ladies, it should not dictate the way we perceive ourselves. Working at Little Black Dress I have come to find that what we do here is truly extraordinary. We make women see themselves in a different light. We make it possible for women to allow themselves to feel beautiful, and to know this feeling to be true. We do not edit or alter our photos in any way, we simply allow women to be women which is the most attractive thing of all.

True beauty is realizing you are the beholder.
